Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials , Consumer Staples and Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.32% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc (TSX: NGD ), which rose 8.56% or 0.45 points to trade at 5.71 at the close. Meanwhile, B2Gold Corp (TSX: BTO ) added 8.50% or 0.35 points to end at 4.47 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX: EQX ) was up 7.67% or 0.64 points to 8.98 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ), which fell 7.35% or 0.05 points to trade at 0.63 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX: IVN ) declined 5.29% or 0.73 points to end at 13.08 and Aecon Group Inc . (TSX: ARE ) was down 4.76% or 0.92 points to 18.40.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 503 to 430 and 74 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.53% to 13.32.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.80% or 58.24 to $3,291.74 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.11% or 0.07 to hit $62.21 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $65.54 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.09% to 0.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 99.90.
